On a recent site visit to Rishikesh, we visited a in-the process of completion hotel. The basic features that were used there was the local architecture which we also term as vernacular architecture. The hotel’s located near the ghats or a series of steps leading to a stream/river or any water body where various activities like washing and bathing etc take place. In our case, though, the ghat was one where the evening aarti or playing devotional songs and worshiping Gods would take place. Accordingly the view of the hotel was fronted towards the ghats from where one can easily view, apart from the evening aartis, the river Ganga and the Himalyan Range- in its very stage right now, the hotel seems to be a promising affair.
